About Class II
Class 2 builds directly on first steps: sentences get slightly longer, numbers move into two digits, and children begin reading small passages on their own. NCERT structures these books around familiar situations — home, school, the neighbourhood — so new words arrive attached to things children already know. This is the year reading fluency starts to take off, and daily practice matters far more than speed. English and Hindi readers at this level work best when an adult listens and gently corrects pronunciation.
Study tips
- Ask your child to retell each story in their own words after reading.
- Practise counting, grouping, and simple addition with household objects.
- Use the chapters as conversation starters, not just reading exercises.
