About Class V
Class 5 closes the primary stage and prepares children for middle school: EVS becomes genuinely investigative (experiments, surveys, mapping the neighbourhood), maths introduces area, volume, and decimals, and language writing asks for paragraphs and letters. Many schools treat Class 5 results seriously for middle-school sectioning, so consistent study through the year beats last-minute revision. The transition to Class 6 is much smoother for students who can already study a chapter alone and summarise it.
Study tips
- Do the EVS “try this” activities for real instead of just reading them.
- Learn decimal and fraction conversions by heart — Class 6 assumes them.
- Practise writing one paragraph every week on any chapter topic.
